MTD Recalls Utility Vehicles Due to Fire HazardDate: 6/12/2008
Reason: Excessive heat can cause the wiring harness to melt. This defect can result in a fire hazard to consumers.

WASHINGTON , D.C. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed.
The following product safety recall was voluntarily conducted by the firm in cooperation with the CPSC. Consumers should stop using the product immediately unless otherwise instructed. Name of Product: Cub Cadet 4x4 EFI Volunteer Utility Vehicles Units: About 700 Manufacturer: MTD, of Brownsville, Tenn. Hazard: Excessive heat can cause the wiring harness to melt. This defect can result in a fire hazard to consumers. Incidents/Injuries: MTD has received five reports of heat damage to the vehicle. There have been no reports of personal injury. Description: The recalled utility vehicle is a four-wheel drive vehicle with "Cub Cadet, Tracker Edition" printed on the side panel. This vehicle has roll over protection and an open cargo bed in the back with "Volunteer" printed on the side. It is equipped with a Kohler electronic fuel-injected engine. The model/serial plate is located under the driver's seat. Sold at: Cub Cadet dealerships and Bass Pro retail outlets nationwide under the Cub Cadet brand name from March 2008 through April 2008 for between $9,700 and $10,500. Manufactured in: United States Remedy: Consumers should stop using these vehicles immediately and contact their Cub Cadet dealership to have their utility vehicle serviced at no charge. All known consumers have been contacted. Each reworked utility vehicle has a green "X" label on the model/serial tag. Distribution: NATIONWIDE Date: 9/15/2008 Reason: Over-tightening of the DIN retainer by a technician during installation can result in the retainer breaking under pressure, a rapid escape of air from the scuba cylinder, and the regulator detaching from the scuba cylinder. Date: 9/11/2008 Reason: ONE OR MORE BOLTS MAY HAVE FALLEN INTO THE AIR BOX NEAR THE THROTTLE BODIES SUCH THAT ONE OF THESE BOLTS COULD LODGE IN THE THROTTLE BODY AREA AND INTERFERE WITH THROTTLE LINKAGE WHICH COULD RESULT IN AN ACCIDENT WITH POTENTIAL OF PERSONAL INJURY OR DEATH. Distribution: NATIONWIDE. Date: 10/3/2008 Reason: When used outdoors, the wood in the hammock stand can deteriorate over time and break, posing a risk of falls and lacerations to consumers. Distribution: Nationwide Date: 9/26/2008 Reason: The jack lifts can have threads stripping or the nuts breaking, resulting in the shaft slipping and the mower falling from its stand-up position. This could cause serious personal injury to the consumer or property damage. Distribution: Nationwide Date: 10/27/2008 Reason: Rim surface and spoke hole plugs on the wheel can cause a puncture to the inner tube, resulting in a flat tire.
