WASHINGTON , D.C. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed.


Monterey Mushrooms of Watsonville, CA is recalling approximately 10,000 cases of fresh sliced white mushrooms and fresh sliced baby bella mushrooms, because it has the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.

The products were recalled in the states of: PA, MD, NC, NJ, NY, OH, and VA

Reason: Beef Packers, Inc., a Fresno, Calif., firm, is recalling approximately 1,560 pounds of beef cheek products because they may be contaminated with E. coli

Distribution: Nationwide.
 
Date: 7/3/2008
Reason: .S. Marshals seized various animal food products stored under unsanitary conditions at the PETCO Animal Supplies Distribution Center located in Joliet, Ill.

Distribution: PETCO retail stores in 16 states including Alabama, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Ohio, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, and Wisconsin

Reason: People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to egg run the risk of serious or life threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products.

Distribution: Throughout the Northeast through retail stores.
 
Date: 7/3/2008

Reason: Nebraska Beef, Ltd., an Omaha, Neb., establishment is recalling approximately 531,707 pounds of ground beef components that may be contaminated with E. coli O157:H7, the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service announced today.

Reason: Giant Food has announced a voluntary recall of Giant brand garlic bread and garlic spread products sold in its Bakeshop as the items contain milk products which are not declared on the labels.
