ATVs Recalled By Kawasaki Due to Loss of Speed ControlDate: 7/3/2008
Reason: The throttle can fail to return to the idle position when released or could fail to be at idle on start-up. This could result in loss of vehicle control, posing a risk of serious injury or death to the rider.

The following product safety recall was voluntarily conducted by the firm in cooperation with the CPSC. Consumers should stop using the product immediately unless otherwise instructed. Name of Product: 2008 Model Year KFX 50 and KFX 90 Youth ATVs Units: About 6,000 Distributed by: Kawasaki Motors Corp. U.S.A., of Irvine, Calif. Hazard: The throttle can fail to return to the idle position when released or could fail to be at idle on start-up. This could result in loss of vehicle control, posing a risk of serious injury or death to the rider. Incidents/Injuries: None reported. Description: The recall includes 2008 model year KFX 50 (50cc) and KFX 90 (90cc) youth ATVs. The affected models are green or white with black trim. The model name is located on either side below the handlebars. Sold by: Kawasaki dealerships nationwide from August 2007 through June 2008 for about $1,750 (KFX 50) and $2,200 (KFX 90). Manufactured in: Taiwan Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled ATVs and contact any authorized dealer to schedule a free repair. Registered owners were sent direct mail notification of this recall. This can pose fire and burn hazards to consumers. Distribution: Nationwide Date: 10/27/2008 Reason: Rim surface and spoke hole plugs on the wheel can cause a puncture to the inner tube, resulting in a flat tire. This can cause the rider to lose control and fall. Distribution: Nationwide Date: 9/26/2008 Reason: Cracks can develop in the welded joints of the drive axle assembly of the snowmobile and can result in complete breakage. If this happens the track of the vehicle can unexpectedly lock, causing riders to be ejected off the vehicle or lose control and collide with bystanders, a fixed object or other vehicles. Distribution: Nationwide Date: 9/8/2008 Reason: The top of the bicycle handlebar stem can crack and cause the rider to lose control, posing a crash hazard. Distribution: Nationwide. Date: 9/15/2008 Reason: The rechargeable battery inside the helicopter can overheat. This can result in the helicopter’s body melting, as well as a risk of fire or burns to consumers.
