The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) released the following information:

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- Cincinnati, OH -- September 17, 2008 -- This product is being recalled due to the omission of egg in the ingredient statement following the ingredient "Reduced Calorie Mayonnaise." The recall decision was based on a potential allergen was included in the product and excluded from the label ingredient statement. This label omission was discovered in a standard ingredient statement audit.

The recalled item was distributed regionally in retail vending locations.

The product comes in a 7 ounce, black plastic package labeled as "ALBACORE TUNA SALAD HOAGIE on the top and with an expiration date of 09/17/08.

No illnesses have been reported in connection with this omission.

The recall was initiated after it was discovered that the egg-containing product was distributed in packaging that did not reveal the presence of eggs in the reduced calorie mayonnaise. Subsequent investigation indicates the exclusion was caused by a temporary product substitution.

This item has been suspended from the working menu pending label ingredient review, post recall.

Class I - This is a health hazard situation where there is a reasonable probability that the use of the product will cause serious, adverse health consequences or death.

Reason: The chicken products may contain an undeclared allergen, wheat, the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service announced today. Wheat is a known allergen, which is not declared on the label.
