American Suzuki Motor Corp. Recalls All-Terrain Vehicles for Crash Hazard

The following product safety recall was voluntarily conducted by the firm in cooperation with the CPSC. Customers should stop using the product immediately unless otherwise instructed.

Name of Product: Suzuki 2006 model year QuadRacer ATVs

Units: About 6,300

Distributor: American Suzuki Motor Corp., of Brea, Calif.; Montgomery Motors, Ltd., of Honolulu, Hawaii; Suzuki del Caribe, of Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico

Hazard: The cushion lever mounting bracket on the ATV frame can break. If this occurs the rider could lose control of the ATV and crash, posing a risk of serious injury or death.

Incidents/Injuries: Suzuki has received 27 reports of the cushion lever mounting bracket breaking, resulting in one report of a head injury.

Description: Only Suzuki 2006 model year LTR450K6 model Quad Racer ATVs with vehicle identification numbers ending with 00089 through 11626 are included in this recall. The vehicle identification number is located on the lower left side of the ATV frame. QuadRacer, printed in white letters, and R450 and Suzuki are written on the side of the ATV. These ATVs were sold in yellow or white.

Sold at: Suzuki ATV dealers nationwide from January 2006 through May 2006 for about $7,300.

Manufactured In: Japan

Remedy: Consumers should stop using these vehicles immediately and contact the local Suzuki ATV dealer to schedule an appointment for a free repair. Consumers with the recalled ATVs are being sent direct notices from Suzuki.

Reason: Cracks can develop in the welded joints of the drive axle assembly of the snowmobile and can result in complete breakage. If this happens the track of the vehicle can unexpectedly lock, causing riders to be ejected off the vehicle or lose control and collide with bystanders, a fixed object or other vehicles.

Reason: IF THE BIMINI TOP IS IN THE DEPLOYED POSITION WHILE THE BOAT IS UNDERWAY IT COULD COLLAPSE AND STRIKE THE OPERATOR AND/OR PASSENGER.

Reason: ONE OR MORE BOLTS MAY HAVE FALLEN INTO THE AIR BOX NEAR THE THROTTLE BODIES SUCH THAT ONE OF THESE BOLTS COULD LODGE IN THE THROTTLE BODY AREA AND INTERFERE WITH THROTTLE LINKAGE WHICH COULD RESULT IN AN ACCIDENT WITH POTENTIAL OF PERSONAL INJURY OR DEATH.

Reason: The gas grills can be assembled improperly exposing the gas burner hoses to excessive heat, posing fire and burn hazards to consumers.
