Site 59Lastminute.com - Wouldn''t refund trip due to grandmother''s death
I planned a last minute trip through www.lastminute.com or www.site59.com to go to Chicago for the weekend. However, on the morning of the day (May 16, 2008) I was to leave, my grandmother passed away at 8:51 a.m. My flight was not scheduled until 8:20 p.m. on that day. I called the company immediately to cancel my trip. The agent, Jamie Stevens, refunded half of my trip for 491.22 and told me the other half would be refunded (491.22) when I sent in the death certificate. I, also, contacted American Express to dispute the charges, and they sent a letter to me saying that it was up to the travel agent to refund the other half after receiving the death certificate. As of today, August 20, 2008, I have been informed that I would receive a 39 voucher for both passengers from the airline! I am completely insulted that this company thinks that 78 is compensation for 491.22, considering my grandmother passed away! This is completely unacceptable. In normal circumstances with an airline, it is customary to only charge you 100 change fee if you don't use the ticket and wish to use it later. I want to report this to every magazine in the U.S., because I feel that I have treated unfairly.
