Marriott''s Grande Vista Resort - chemical cleaners
I stayed at the Marriott's Grande Vista Resort in Orlando for five weeks last fall. During that period, I developed serious eye infection, burned skin around my eyes, scabs in my nose, sinus congestion, etc., etc., to say nothing more that may have occured internally.
I am a healthy adult with no allergies under normal conditions, with a normal immune system.
Once I realized this reaction was occuring within the villa, I studied what was happening to me. When the cleaning crew cleaned daily, it was obvious that the source of the problem stemmed with the chemical cleaning products.
I wrote to W. J. Marriott Jr., CEO of Marriott, Mr. William Shaw, president of Marriott and Mr. Paul Ryan, manager of the Grande Vista in Orlando. Only Mr. Ryan responded saying nothning could be done about the chemicals since they are tested and safe even though the staff and others saw my burned eyes, etc.
I lost a perfect five week vacaction trying to find out what was making me sick and it disturbs me that Marriott does not care that chemicals are making their clients sick. It would be interesting to know how many of the other 6000 guests were also sick. However since most of the guests stay on an average of a week, they simply go home thinking they have a cold, or similar symptoms.
I did some research and found companies in Washingto, D.C., exactly where the head office of Marriott is located, who have alternate safe products that would clean as well as their chemicals. However Marriott is not interested to change or even contact those companies I have researched for them.
I have asked for NO MONEY or any compensation other than giving me back my vacation without their chemical abuse. Mr. Ryan offered me ONE free week, as goodwill. What an insult!!! I am not looking for freebies, only that to which I am entitiled. I do not want his ONE week as compensation. I WANT MARRIOTT TO LOOK INTO CHANGING THEIR HARMFUL CHEMICALS FOR A SAFE ENVIRONMENT, for me and all their clients of all ages.
Knowing how chemicals can harm our health, it is just mindboggling that Marriott would not do something about cleaning up the environment to protect their clients.
Why would Marriott not even consider changing?????? Is there any logic to it????????????
Please let me know what can be done to get them listening.
