Direct TV had a promotion where I was supposed to have free HBO, Cinemax and Showtime for 3 months. The wife and I both had medical issues at the same time and incurred alot of bills, missed alot of work and have no medical insurance. I had auto pay for Direct TV through my debit card. I called to downgrade my service to make things a little easier on our bills. The next thing I know, they had taken out over 81 from our bank account because they had charged us for all the movie channels. I called to get it straightened out and to please put the money back as I really needed it immediately. At first the guy I talked to said it was because I had downgraded my programming. The next person I talked to said that the time frame to not get charged was over. Then I spoke with a supervisor and they said that they couldn't put the money back and I could only get a credit and I was right that I still had a month left for free movies.
I then wanted to cancel my account as I deemed this a breach of contract that they had taken money from my account without any reason or authorization for the movie channels and It did not seem fair to pay THEIR early cancelation fee. They said I have to pay that and admit no breach. I called to stop the auto pay so I could get a regular bill. They REFUSED until the penalty payment was made. I had to cancel my debit card and order a new one just to make sure they didn't take more money from my account without my authorization.
Is there any way to stop these ignorant companies or in my case, get compensated for all they put me through instead of having to line their pockets with the last of my cash???
