Asmy sonentered 6th grade, I informed the school and staff that he was adhd and would like the school to give him an evaluation test for special classes. I filled in the paper work, turned it back in and they never gave him the test. Even through elementary school I asked for help and was always given an excuse. At the end of the school year, my son failed the fcat test along with his grades and was held back, even with the nclb law in effect. I cried for help, only to be told lies to keep my son which is black, from getting the help that he needed to catch up with his peers. I could not believe how they lied to me. The school never gave me any options. But I always hear that they care about the children. If the governor could only come to florida and see, visually see how many of our children are being left behind, I think he would change his tune and tell the truth, it's not about the children, it's about how much money each child can bring the schools. I cannot believe a school in a low-income area is not a Title I school to help the children that needs the free tutoring so much. I t makes me think that we are not being helped so our children can always be behind. Statistics show that our black children are 3 times behind the white kids. What is wrong? Give the help where it is needed most and let the children be equal with learning. Remember these are the children of our future or so they say. I would like to add this,' I was told down at the school board, that it sounds like my baby fell through a crack'. I told the Supt's Sec. there should not be a seam or crack with the no child be left behind law.
