Bernard Koire,, M.D. - Plastic Surgeon

Let me begin by saying this doctor had been a friend of the family for decades and lived with my first cousin. He had operated on my cousin, my mother and others within the family unit and outside. When I became disabled I was given a cash settlement and decided that this was the time to have my face done. I had no reason to mistrust Dr. Koire. However, he and my cousin had taken a trip abroad and while he was away, suffered a stroke and was in a hospital for a week or so and then came home. He went into rehab for awhile. During this time I was in constant contact with my cousin, Jan Arak, and always inquired how Bernie (Dr. Koire) was doing and had he gone back to his practice and doing surgeries. After some time, she told me that he was fine and that he had returned to his practice and was operating. At a family dinner several months later I told him that I wanted to get my face done and he accepted the task. My mother and I went to his office on the date of the surgery and he told me that I would have a 'wonderful' result. He couldn't have been more wrong. I will list here all of the things that went wrong: 1. He put in a chin inplant that was improperly done and either was broken at the time of surgery or very shortly thereafter; 2. He did liposuction on my neck and 'crossed' the muscles in my neck to give the neck stability and to prevent further sagging. He took out too much fat which now leaves me with a hollow area; 3. he did an eye procedure to remove extra ski, but removed too much fat which left me looking like I have white sidewalls surrounding the cornea and also left me with a permanent condition where the eyes do not close and thus I am constantly having to put lacrilube into my eyes to keep them lubricated. As a result of this I very rarely wear eye makeup anymore because everytime I do I get an irritation; 4. He did put something in my cheeks which now seem like rocks and serve no purpose. My mother later told me that on one of the post-surgical visits I made to have the sutures removed, Bernie started to do it himself but then told one of his nursing staff to take the remainder of what needed to be removed. He left the room and returned with a small (approx. 6'W x 2'D) circular candy dish to offer my some candy. As he started to enter the room he dropped the dish which of course broke. There was no reason for the dish to have fallen because of a step or some other area in the floor which would have caused him to slip to lose control of the dish. Several months later at a family dinner at my cousin's house I was talking with Bernie's brother Michael, when Bernie approached to offer me a glass of wine. There was a normal size bottle of wine on the counter, however, when he went to pick it up, he could not. His brother then said his 'shoulder was shot'. At that point everything fell into place and explained why the things happened to me. He clearly was in no physical condition to operate. He did give me the money back that I paid him for the surgery but refused to pay to have the work fixed (if it could be fixed). I did go to many attorneys to take the case but in each instance they said that I would have to have been comatose on the table to take the case. In other words they wanted big bucks and I am left with a deformed face with no funds to repair what Dr. Koire has done to me.
