Best Buy - Useless Computer
Brought my computer, which was purchased at Best Buy with the extended warranty, in for service in May of 2009. They looked at it in the store saying it was probably a virus. I waited while they scanned the computer and Surprise!, No Virus...a real problem. So they kept it a day or so and told me it was the motherboard. Then I got a call saying that they are sending it in for service. Finally, I was notified that the Hard Drive needed to be replaced.
Best Buy replaced the hard drive, but returned the computer to me without an Operating System. I understand and okay with personal data loss, but the OPERATING SYSTEM, come on.
I tried to explain that it was like bringing your car in for service, they fix it, but tell you it needs oil and gas or even a battery..and it's your responsibility to find a way to provide the vehicle with what it needs. It's like selling a set of tires, but not inflating them.
Regardless, I gave them a Computer with an operating system, which I paid for, and I did not receive my property back to me. The computer has sat now for 5 months, going on 6 as I continue to e-mail back and forth with Best Buy.
As fast as computers become obsolete, I'll have nothing but a fancy cup holder by the time I get it working again...if I ever do.
Despite the many e-mails, the best 'Solution' I received is for me to track down a replacement Operating System from the Gateway website, purchase the operating system from Gateway (if available), and then Best Buy will send me a BB Gift Card to make up for what I paid.
I am out time, frustration, the use of a quickly aging computer, the cost of purchasing a laptop, and the general stress of trying to get something done.

Escalting
I also purchased a computer from BEST BUY that was a lemon. However you need to escalate the complaint to BEST BUYS customer service as well as Gateway's customer service. I know mine was an HP and HP assigned me and advocate and he got me a new computer directly from them.
