Mirena IUD - Three trips to ER!
After experiencing excruciating pain for many months, I found myself unable to put weight on my left foot. An ultrasound through the ER showed that the Mirena IUD had impaled or perforated the left side of my uterus. They sent me home with pain killers and told me to see a GYN the next day. At that appointment I could not stand the pain and the Dr sent me back to the ER. After being admitted and on IV antibiotics for two days, the IUD was removed through the OR. I was sent home. Five days later I felt the pain again on my left side and drove back to the ER! Again on IV antibiotics for another two days due to infection. I am still recuperating from this ordeal; one month and counting.
