JaguarFord - 2000 Jaguar S complaint
Approx. 2 years ago, I purchased a 2000 Jaguar S type. A few months after my purchase, the car engine locked up on me and wouldn't run..It had to be towed back to the dealer who worked on it. then a few months after that, the car's transmission locked on me again and wouldn't get itself out of park, no matter how hard I tried. I called a tow truck but the driver said he could not tow it because the transmission was locked...something that for some reason keeps happening to these 2000 Jaguars. He told me that this wasn't the first time he had been called to tow a Jaguar and couldn't. so I was stuck...I had to get a mechanic to drive over to my car in the mall parking lot and work on it. I don't know what he did but he managed to unlock the transmission and told me that this happened all the time because the 2000 Jaguar had a faulty and cheaper transmission that the dealer had placed in all these Jaguars which was not the proper transmission and that this would continue to happen until I replaced the whole transmission...When I told to the dealer where I bought the car, they also replied that they knew about this transmission problem but that it was not their fault. But I could replace the whole transmission and get the right one but it would cost about 5,000.00. Well, I am a retired teacher who obviously cannot afford that, so now I just drive very little and make sure not to park on any slight incline or be sure not to reverse often. I have 75,000 miles on the car but honestly, if I could, I would return it in a second!! I am very unhappy with this car, even if it looks good, it runs horribly! I have had work done on the engine many times...luckily, I had it under warranty...but the last time, which was about a month ago, the warranty ran out, so I had to pay approx. 300.00 out of pocket to get work done on the engine. I just keep my fingers crossed every day...thanks and please help!!! Guadalupe Harvey
