Purchased a 2000 Jaguar S type with 56,000 miles. At 63,000 had to replace the transmission. No warning at all this would occur with the engine light going on and the car shutting down. I posted a complaint on a Forums web site for jaguars and found out I was not the only one having the same issue. Hundreds of people emailed me with the same problem. Service managers at dealers across the country were told to claim no knowledge about this issue even though many have stated in different ways how bad the transmissions really are. The average cost to replace the transmission is 5000 dollars. The design of the engine is such that the owner has no way of adding fluid to the gearbox. The manual state the transmission and fluid reserves are sealed with no access to them and the owner only has to bring the car into a dealer for service to change the fluid after 100,000 miles. No where on the car can you add fluid!! I suggested a class action law suit on one of the sites and had hundreds of people email me wanting to join the suit. All Jaguars from 2000 to 2004 S type have this problem. Jaguar realized the mess after 2005 and changed the design. I created an email address for other owners to respond and have all the complaints.
