On 05-19-09, my wife and I went into the Ashley Furniture Store located in Universal City, Texas which is a suburb of San Antonio. Our intent was to purchase a bedroom set and a sectional sofa for our living room. We were going to put the items on lay-away but a store employee told us to visit TRS, which is located inside the store, for 'in-house financing' so that we could get the furniture sooner than the 90 day lay-away. We visitied TRS and were told not do to 'lay-away' as TRS could get us 'in-house financing' and our furniture would be deliverd in a week. The total amount of the purchase was 1876.94. The monthly payments on this account would be 298.00 per month. We were informed by the TRS, manager that the furniture would be paid off in six months under this plan or we could make additional payments and pay the account off early. Our original payment date was the 22nd of each month which I changed to the 3rd of each month due to a change in pay periods. On August 22, 2009 I was contacted via telephone by a TRS employee who was looking for my August payment. I advised the employee that I spoke with his manager and changed my payment date to the 3rd of each month. The manger called and left a very nasty message demanding my payment. I called and informed him of the change and he told me he would get his lawyer involved. My contract states that if a payment is not made within 10 days of the due date then collection activity could start. On 08-26-09, I received a certified letter from TRS attorney demanding I return the furniture within 72 hours. (This was four days after my due date) I then contacted a TRS district manager from Austin, Tx and advised he of the situation. She spoke with the manager and the dispute was resolved at this time. She advised me to ignore the letter from the attorney as it was done inadvertantly.

On 09-03-09, I was contacted by the district manager who advised me that I need to make a payment immediately. I informed her I would make the payment 09-04-09. She advised me this would not work and I needed to return the furniture. I advised her that we have already paid 1067.00 towards the purchase. She advised me that the total amount that was due on the contract was 298.00 times 24 months which equaled 7152.00 plus the original purchase price of 1876.92 for a grand total of 9028.92. I asked for a refund of the money I had already paid and she told me that the money would not be refunded as the payments were considered 'rent'.

I HAVE BEEN SCAMMED AND NEED HELP. I would have nver agreeded to pay over 9000.00 for 1800.00 worth of furniture.
