HP - Faulty Laptop
Purchased an HP Pavilion laptop, and when less than 1 year old received an email from HP that some of my model serial number sequence laptops were having problems with the screen going black and other things. Not long after receiving this email, my HP Pavilion did just that. HP sent me a box I shipped it to them, they fixed the defect by REPLACING the MOTHERBOARD and gave me a 90 day warranty. Less than 1 year later, the wireless quit working then the screen went black - AGAIN! I called HP they told me they would REPLACE THE MOTHERBOARD AGAIN for 400 and give me another 90 day warranty! I took it to Geek Squad, and they said it was the MOTHERBOARD was not worth the cost to fix it, as I could buy a new computer for just a little more money! I paid approximately 1500 for this laptop and fully expect that it should last longer than it has, especially since they KNEW the used a defective motherboard, and replaced the motherboard with apparently another DEFECTIVE MOTHERBOARD!!! I use my laptop for work have now been without it for months, while I have it in a repair shop getting a CHIP on the motherboard replaced. Technician claims that he has had so many of the same problems with other HP pavilion laptops that there are not even any 'chips' available in the US and is awaiting receipt of several of them from another country!
HP obviously knows of the defect since they recalled it to fix it, however, they failed to provide a REAL FIX for it! This should fall under a LEMON LAW, as no doubt, if someone were to pay another 400 for another 90 DAY warrantied fix, the issue would arise again within a year!
