Bayer - Mirena IUD
Based on my gynecologist strong recommendation I had a Mirena (IUD) inserted last October. I wanted a birth control method that wouldn’t affect my chances of getting pregnant in the future. My gynecologist never told me about the possible risks associated with the use of this IUD, neither asked me to schedule a follow up visit to ensure that the Mirena was in place. Since I had the IUD device inserted, I started to experience hair loss, mood swings, breast tenderness, abdominal pain, severe acne and depression. Mirena turned into a different person. A sad and unhappy person! I used to cry all the time. I couldn’t truly enjoy my family or dedicate myself to my own business. But I didn’t know that the Mirena could cause depression.
But that’s not all. On the morning of August 1, 2009 I woke up with an excruciating abdominal pain and immediately went to the closest ER where I was informed I had an ectopic pregnancy and internal bleeding. To keep it from becoming a life threading condition, my right ovarian tube was surgically removed that same day. After the procedure was performed, I was told that the Mirena was found out of place in my cervix.
Despite what the doctor told me at the hospital, I found articles and studies indicating that the use of Mirena can increase the occurrence of “tubal pregnancies”. On top of the medical expenses and personal injury, my chances of getting pregnant in the future are reduced. Also, it’s my understanding that if I try to get pregnant again, I have higher chances of having another ectopic pregnancy because it has occurred once.
I definitely want to join a class action lawsuit against Bayer. I strongly believe that the women who suffered serious side effects should be compensated for their losses and unnecessary pain AND no other women should experience problems caused by Mirena. Bayer needs to stop selling this IUD device!
