True.com - unauthorized account withdrawals
I received an email from true.com saying check this out,so I did. I opened the email, which evidently reactivated an account I had closed in 2007. True.com then charged me for 2 membership services which were withdrawn from the account I had used in 2007. My bank charged me a total of 40.00 for insufficient fees in that account, since I dont use that account anymore. There was no money in that account for that reason. True did refund the membership charges after I had to argue the point that they shouldnt even retain my account info since I had closed account in 2007. My bank has so far refused to refund the 40.00. Im working on that part. My complaints are True.com withdrew funds from an account they should not have had access to since I cancelled with them in2007. To me, the cancellation should include cancelling the right of access to my account, even if they retained my account information. I called them on July 25,2009 and talked to one of True.com 's operators, who ended our conversation by hanging up on me. I then callled back and spoke to another operator who put me in touch with a supervisor who said that they could only reimburse what they had withdrawn and nothing more. She said she was deleting my total account info, including the bank account number.I hope that is the case. Admittedly, I never should have opened the email, buy that shoudnt be enough to reacativate an account and definitely should not authorize them to get into my account. I use the internet a lot and usually consider myself savvy enough to avoid things like this, but this time they got me. I believe that if anyone cancels membership, that even if information conserning the account is retained by the cancelled company, their right to account access should be terminated at the time of cancellation. thank you for hearing my complaint.
