NATIONAL FITNESS FINANCIAL - Fraudulent Charges
I received a flyer in the mail for a free weight loss study at Crossroads Fitness in Ogden, UT. The study was for 6 months. I went to get started and was told that in order to participate in the study I actually had to join the gym. I said I couldn't sign the contract because my husband is active duty and we had orders to restation after the 6 month study. I conditionally signed the one year contract after being told that I was signing a contract with a military clause that would honor my husbands oders and I could get out of the contract without a cancellation fee. All I had to do was give them a copy of my husband's orders and I would be released from the contract WITHOUT a cancellation fee, so I signed. I spoke with several of the staff throughout my membership and made sure they new how long I had left and that I wouldn't be charged a cancellation fee. On my last day I gave the front desk my husband's orders and my account was paid in full. I was my bank account would not be debited any more and I was good to go. A few months after moving I noticed my account had been debited every month by National Fitness, the financial company. I first called the gym to resolve this and was told I had to deal with National. National told me that I could not cancel because the orders I sent had my married name and my account had my maiden name on it. I pointed out the fact that the name on the bank accout they had been pulling money out of was my married name, same as on the orders. I hadn't used my maiden name in five years. They still said I would not have a cancellation fee so I just send them my marriage license. I expected to be refunded for the three months I was charged after I cancelled, but instead I was told that I owed a cancellation fee! I had been very cooperative and sent them all the information requested so that they could get their stuff together all along thinking that the account would be back dated and reimbursed to the actual date of cancellation and my verbal aggreemant of no cancellation fee would be honored. I couldn't get any farther with them after this. I tried to explain what had been going on to the manager and she was so rude to me. She wouldn't give me a name of anyone I caould contact above her or a company address besides their PO box that Id already been sending everything to. I got online and found all kinds of information about National Fitness Financial including complaints from countless other customers who have had to deal with the same bad business. I want to help make sure this doesn't happen to anyone else. Please find out who your prospect gym's financial company is and if you hear National Fitness just choose another gym. You will save your self a lot of time and money and grief.
