Mirena IUD - Problems!
I began having irregular bleeding and pain in my lower back. I would experience pain when I had bowel movements. I called the doctor for an appointment and upon examination, they could not find the strings. I had a vaginal and abdominal ultrasound and the IUD could not be found. They were going to put me on an nate birth control assuming that the IUD had come out. Several of the doctors in the practice I go to got together and reviewed the situation and decided that I should have xrays as a final check. The xrays revealed that it was somewhere in my abdominal cavity near my rectum. The surgeon in my obgyn practice began meeting with me and said that it needed to come out because of the danger of migrating to a major organ (bladder or bowels). The doctor believes that the problems with cramping, bleeding and movements occur from intercourse. The pressure of intercourse moves the IUD and causes bleeding, or as in my case, it was completely pushed through the uterus. Evidently the hormone from the IUD thins the uterus and makes it easy to move through it. I had the surgery this past Monday. I think these unknown side effects need to be known and reported and the product probably needs to be taken off the market.
