toyota - toyota rav4 2002 faulty ECU
Dear SirMadam,
My wife noticed problems shifting automatic transmission on
merge and was almost run over by a semi-truck...We then took into dealer
who told us engine light was not on so they could not diagnose and advised
us to drain transmission fluid 200 towing 100, rental car 300 to date, ECU diagnostic 100...2 weeks later, my wife was on highway and
transmission spontaneously shifted into low gear causing her to swerve off
road...We have been told that we need to replace ECU and transmission
5,000...I have gone online and read that Toyota has been aware of this
problem for over 2 years and will not issue recall as not enough people have
complained...THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE MY WIFE WAS ALMOST KILLED!!!
2001-2003 Toyota RAV4 has defective ECU which has in turn fries transmission...Toyota has known about this defect since 2006 and will not issue a recall due to 'low complaint volume' (see Google hits below)

Toyota Rav4 -faulty Ecu..destroyed Transmission
54,000 miles on my 2002 RAV4 and was nearly hit as well!!!
Just found out today that Toyota will replace or upgrade the ECU if under 80,000 miles BUT WILL NOT cover the Damaged Transmission that occurred as a result of the faulty Computer!!
This will cost about only 5000!!! What is this? This cost should be totally absorbed by Toyota...How many complaints or major accidents have to occur??? Does someone have to be killed for them to step up and recall the ECU and transmissions?
