SprintNextel - Sent to Collections over a 49 Bill I Never Received
I have had SprintNextel as a cellular phone provider for approximately 4 years now. When I moved to Mass. from Texas in 2005, I merged my SprintNextel account with another one of their members to reduce the cost of both our monthly expenses. I'm not sure what month we actually did this, but I do know that when I moved back to Texas we no longer were on the same account.
Throughout my time with SprintNextel, I have never once been late on a payment, nor have I been late andor delinquent on any account that I have had with any credit agency for that matter, ever. I didn't know this at the time, but a bill had been generated for a feecharge that wasn't available at the time we decided to have separate accounts. I have always had paperless billing, and am extremely aware of all my financial obligations I have to companies, organizations, and individuals that I may owe money to.
This bill generated by SprintNextel back in the summer of 2007, which I didn't become aware of until mid-to-late 2008, was to be 'reviewed and looked over' by the department in charge of these kinds of problems within the SprintNextel family. As predicted, I was never given a call back and it wasn't until I gave them a call towards the end of the year that they informed me that not only was someone supposed to call me and inform me that the charge was 'billed properly', but my account had been sent to a collection agency.
This particular representative said that all payments that were to be made would have to go through the credit agency that they had sent it to. I hung up realizing that fixing this problem, especially since it had been sent to collections already, would be an uphill battle.
I called SprintNextel back a few days later and to my surprise, the female operator took a credit card payment in the amount of 49 dollars and stated that it could take up to 3 months to reflect on my credit report as being paid, but it will do so nonetheless.
Five months later, a letter from Sprint to me, which was then faxed to the collections agency, and my credit report still shows this delinquent account as being unpaid. To make matters even worse, my average credit score went from about a 750 to a 660. To this day I get upset when I think about the turn of events that I've experienced with my relationship with SprintNextel, but I no longer want the credit agency that overlooks this 'delinquent' account to have their records reflect this account as being paid. I want it gone from their records in its entirety.
As previously noted, since I was 18 years old, which would make that a little less than 8 years ago, I have never been late on a car payment, personal loan, credit card, or any payment I was obligated to pay, EVER. So to have SprintNextel do this to me is a slap in the face, especially when their records clearly can demonstrate that I am not an at-risk customer. I plan on filing a small claims suit against them as soon as the Spring 2009 semester ends to potentially resolve this issue, but would like to hear any feedback on anyone who has a similar experience, can give any advice on what route to take, etc. Thanks in advance.
Andrew
