I originally signed up for a membership with Compuserve (owned by AOL online america), when purchasing a computer about 12 yrs ago or so. I keep this service after the required time and paid the 25.95 monthly charge, which was unlimited uses (dial up, DSL, etc. was not yet a factor). A few times I reviewed billing which would give a detail of what screen name was on and for how long it was connected). Please note: I have not gone through all the trouble yet of getting exact dates unless this is worth pursuing. At some point mabye 7 or so yrs ago, I got DSL service at my home (at the time in San Bruno, CA) through ATT, but continued to use the compuserve online service, however now I was not using their dial up connection since I had DSL, which I now have in Pacifica through Com. About a month ago, I had to change my company's AOL account billing due to a problem with the Visa it was being charged on and when I was doing that I discovered various billing plans for accounts that did not require dial up and had another service for access. Anotherwords they now offers plans for 4.99 to 25.95 depending on if you have another provider and access service though another provider to use AOL. I changed my companys account since we had also been paying the 25 amount for many years where we had brought in DSL service and used it to access our AOL account.

I then went to my Compuserve billing where I discovered that they offered the same billing options, should you not need the dialup connection and connect through another provider. I changed my billing to the 4.99 a month in Feb. 2009.

I feel that since compuserve should have made some effort to inform its customers of the lower billing options when DSL became availible. So for years they have been charging for services they know are not needed since as I indicated before with dial up it would track (what connected through, what screen name and how long logon) customers usage, and knew when the customers were no longer using that service, but continued for years to charge for services not being used or needed without know there was other options availible.
I feel they shoud refund the amount over charges since a customer stopped using dial-up and started using DSL.
I could have been paying the 4.99 in lieu of the 25.95 for about 6-7 yrs and fee they shoud refund the diff. between the two amounts from the time the dial up was not used.

As I mentioned, this is happing in AOL as well as another company owned by AOL compuserve, and I am sure many customers are unaware their options when they are using another service provider for service and just accessing AOL for mail or as a browser.
