Mirena IUD - Had to have surgery!
I had the Mirena IUD put in the end of June 2008, 10wks after my daughter was born. I had HORRIBLE stabbing pains during insertion and for several days after. My doctor checked it a few weeks later (I was still having bad pain, constantly spotting, and having very painful intercourse). She couldn't see the Mirena strings that normally hang out the cervix so she did a quick ultra-sound that showed it in place.
Over the next several months many thing were going on with me physically I couldn't explain. I had steadily been losing 'baby' weight until the Mirena was put in, and now had to struggle just to keep the same size. I got frequent head aches and I don't ever really get them. Experienced the most painful periods with VERY heavy bleeding. Plus painful intercourse and a deacreased sex drive. I wasn't sure what was going on with my body and was very frustrated!!!
I had to have emergency surgery 22609 because the Mirena had perforated my uterus. I was in so much pain I am glad I went to the doctor. If I hadn't, the Mirena could have perforated my bowel, spleen, liver AHHH!!!!!
I am now feeling so much better, and it's only been a week since my surgery. I have lost 3lbs, have not had a head ache, and just feel better. My co-worker started researching for me while I was home recovering from surgery and found all of these other women who had similar side effects and some that have had to have surgery as well. I had NO idea the Mirena would cause me so much trouble, but am telling everyone I know.
If there is a class action law suit, I want my story told!
