Mirena IUD - Geez
I had my daughter in August 2006, I began looking for a type of birth control that would be good for me becuase I have Poly Cystic Ovarian syndrome and Endometriosis. I was very skeptical about having the Mirena because of the chance of a cyst forming on my ovary. I went ahead with my doctor and family's urging and had the Mirena placed in February 2007.
The day that I had it done, I didn't think I was going to make it home because I was cramping so bad. I felt like I was having contractions which when mentioned my doctor told me that it was normal and I had read it was normal to cramp, but I thought I was going to have a 9 pound baby right in his office. I finally did make it home and pretty much layed around the whole day. I was still hurting the next day when I got up.
I called my doctor and talked to him about this and was told to come in. When I went in he told me everything was fine because he could 'see' the strings. He told me that I didn't have a cyst and that everything looked fine. It wasn't more than a day or so later that I was back in his office because the strings were too long and my fiance was saying that he could feel it and it almost felt as though I could too if he got carried away. My doctor did nothing but cut the strings.
Maybe about a month later again my fiance was saying that he could feel the IUD and again I did too. I went back in and my doctor again only cut the strings saying that it was in the right position.
I continued to have pain and since nothing ever got done other than the strings being cut I just accepted that I was stuck with this IUD. I had lost my insurance and wasn't able to keep going to him and paying cash for the visit.
I went without seeing a doctor for anything until September 2008. I began having a lot of pain and had to be taken to the emergency room I was hurting in my lower abdomen, my lower back, and just tremendous pain overall. I had Cat Scans ordered as well as ultrasounds and was given morephine to control the pain. They discharged me saying that I had an ovarian cyst. They told me my IUD was in place and that I wasn't pregnant.
I again ended up in the emergency room in October 2008 again with pain. They gave me the same tests and then gave me more morphine and said oh your cyst has gotten bigger, it will rupture.
I then went back in November and they said that the cyst had gotten larger again. It took 14mg of morphine to control the pain that I was having....They start with 4mg. So 14mg I was completely out of it. They did more tests and came out saying I had a kidney infection, bladder infection, and that the cyst had gotten larger, but again the IUD was just fine.
I got insurance through my job in january and I went to my doctors office and had him check everything. He ordered an ultrasound....I had to wait a week for it and during that week I felt my cyst rupture. I wasn't able to even walk after it did. Anyway, he told me that my IUD was fine and in place and that I didn't have a cyst. He then mentioned that my IUD had moved to the very opening of my uterus and that it was still providing me with my birth control but that is where all my pain was coming from. He told me that I could have it removed and that he would place another one for me.
It is February and I am going today to have it removed because not only my complaints but those that I have read on here. I think it is horrible that women have to go through this. I think it is great that some women can handle the problems associated with this, but I can't handle it anymore. Over the almost two years that I have had my IUD I have noticed that I have had weight gain. I was 207 pounds after I had my daughter and now I am 245 pounds. I have also noticed that I have dealt with the hair loss, not to the extremes which I have read on here but that has gotten on my nerves. I never associated it with the IUD though. Also, my sex drive gone, anxietydepression everlasting, weight gain, etc.
I can't wait to get it off and I hope that I get back to my normal self.
