Sonya Slaughter Helms Law Firm - Dispute comlaint
Sonya Helms firm quoted me a price of 500.00 plus filing fees for a non-contested divorce and a consultation fee that would be waived as part of attorney fees. Upon my initial consultation visit prior to Christmas Sonya Helms advised me to confirm divorce terms and to get back with her at the beginning of the year to proceed with divorce matters. She said she could do nothing at the present due to a busy schedule for the remainder of year. I asked about the fees due and she confirmed that the fees would be 'a little over 700.00' with the consultation fe waived toward attorney fees for a 'non-contested' divorce.
I did as instructed and called back on Jan 5th and was told that fees would be 1000.00 and that my consultation fee would not be waived because 'I waited to long to retain her services.'
Reasonably upset, I disputed both the consultation fee to be waived and the 1000.00 fee with secretary. During the dispute over a three day period Sonya accused me of being belligerant and demanding with her secretary and for that reason she would not represent me. I assured her that in no way was I inappropriate, only voicing my concerns and frustration over the dispute in an appropriate manner.
It is my belief that Sonya Helms had no intentions of representing me for the initial amount afrred which would have totaled to 'a little over 700.00.' Instead she wanted 1000.00 despite the agreed amount of 500.00 plus filing fees. Thus as a result of the dispute she made up a bogus reason to avoid representing me, and I have lost my consultation fee that was to be waived as part of her fees.
Also I would like to add that when I told Sonya Hel'ms secretary of a complaint I found against Sonya on CashLaw.com, that confirmed my suspicion of Sonya's actions, the secretary disclosed information regarding the author of the complaint I felt was not appropriate.
