Pharmaceuticals - Family Planning - Mirena IUD causes SEVERE hair loss - which is NOT listed as a side effect
I, like thousands of other women, suffered from severe hair loss from the Mirena IUD. Hair loss is NOT listed as a side effect and even when I went to have the IUD removed this past week, the Dr. told me that the hair loss should not have been because of the IUD. However, the hair loss started shortly after I got the IUD inserted. I have never had a problem with hair loss, I had long and VERY thick hair and now it comes out in large clumps every time I wash it. There are hundreds of blogs and posts with women who experienced the same problem, and unfortunately, it took many women much longer to realize that the hair loss was a direct result of the IUD... and this is all because hair loss is not listed as a side effect. As a woman, my hair is extremely important to me and is a key feature of my femininity. Losing my hair, in massive proportions is traumatic and is costing me hundreds of dollars in treatments and hair care products to try to cure. I'm not even worried about reversing the loss... at this point I just want it to stop and I pray that EVENTUALLY, maybe, it will grow back. This side effect is severe and detreimental to the well-being of all women. The manufacturers of the Mirena IUD claimed that hair loss was not a comon side effect but this is clearly untrue. With the overwhelming number of women who have experienced, or are experiencing hair loss as a result of the Mirena IUD, the manufacturers are obligated to warn women of this side effect and they are not. This is an issue that deserves legal action immediately.
