Guitar Center Scottsdale Arizona - Fraud
Here is the scenario as stated to the Guitar Center Manager
Hi Tony,
This is Rashad Hawkins (long time Guitar Center shopper) just following up with you
as per our conversation on last Friday pertaining to the status of the Neumann U47
purchase.
As per our conversation, we discussed in detail, how I made a purchase of
a Neumann U47 tube mic with your store on behalf of the Management of a National
Recording artist in advance (giving the U47s rarity) to begin recording with the Neumann
U47 Mic at the end of this summer.
We discussed that the mic was sold to us as a used original Neumann U47 but
when we recently demoed the mic, we immediately noticed that sonically, that it was
not the U47. Next, the mic was taken to a well respected Neumann expert, and
we were advised (in person and reiterated via conference call) that that mic was not
an original Neumann U47 and that the parts inside the mic were not original, and that
the Shell of the mic that says Neumann was not original either and that was the reason
why it lacked the quality of the Neumann U47 that we would hear when renting previous
U47 mics in the past.
Due to the high demand on Neumann U47 mics, we decided not to gamble and hope to
get a rental, but instead make an investment and purchase an original Neumann U47 of
our own, and have it ready to go for this special project when we need it.
After searching long and hard for the Neumann U47, I spoke to your rep Julian at
Guitar Center in Scottsdale AZ and he assured me that he had the vintage Neumann U47
tube mic, and that this mic was the Neumann U47 and offered us an awesome sale on the
mic. He explained that it was considered new used, and that he was happy to work the
deal out and stated that if he was in position to get it he would jump at the chance to get
the vintage Neumann U47 that he was selling us.
With this in mind, we immediately sent you a deposit to hold the mic, and when we sent
the remainder, he then explained that the mic would be shipped in a blue hard case that he
was throwing in to protect Neumann U47,
the mic.
Never in my life, have I gone to a Guitar Center and purchased a keyboard, only to find
out that it was not what I purchased or an AKAI mpc and found that the inside was a
casio drum machine or anything of that nature before this.
This mic was purchased from Guitar Center GUITAR CENTER,not purchased off of the
streets in a back alley somewhere from some bootlegger in which you would expect to
be the forum for something like this incident to happen.
Guitar Center has been known to be a reputable company so I would never assume that
like a car dealership, I would have to check under the hood when making a purchase
because when we purchased the Neumann U87s in the past, the Tlms, and other mics
they sounded just like what our receipt said they were and they were the items advertised.
Tony, this is not a case of some amateur musician looking to get a mic for his first demo
and is purchasing mics to test and take them back until he or she can get the right sound.
There was no mistake on our behalf in what we set out to purchase, nor was there any
mistake on our sales receipt.
What we would like is a resolution to this situation, We paid for a Used Original Neumann
U47, that is not what we got, and we have suffered a great deal of inconveinience, and
a grest loss on this project as a result of the issue at hand. Each minute that we wait for
a resolve, we have to pay for the rental of a REAL Neumann U47 mic while the one
purchased from your store sits packed away in a shipping box.
Please, I urge you to inform me of the next step, for we look forward to Guitar Center to do
the right thing and aggressively rectify this problem that your rep created on behalf of
Guitar Center (specifically) of Scottsdale AZ, so that we can promptly move forward and get
to the next phase of our project.
We look forward to see what you and Guitar Center will do to help restore the faith of those
of us in the musicbusiness community who are counting on you to fix this problem.
Sincerely,
Rashad Hawkins
As a result of my request for a resolve Tony Palmer the Manager expressed that he is not going to do anything about it.
