Bayer - Mirena IUD
After 9 months of muscle pain, joint pain, hair loss, nausea, flu like symptoms, lack of energy and sex drive, I suddenly had severe pain and bleeding for 5 days at which time my body 'expelled' the IUD (which was not covered by my insurance for the device nor doctors visits for insertion and follow up, or for the visits for the problems related to it). I was out of work for 5 days, and after two weeks I have yet to return to anywhere near normal. As I am near 50, but still peri-menopausal, was put on the depo in hopes that the bleeding and pain will diminish over time. I had read up on the product prior to getting it, unfortunately, not the horror stories that I see on line now that I have had one myself. I feel that this product should not be on the market. I see now why insurance will not cover it. They do not want any liability, and I do not blame them. The gynecologist who suggested I get the device is no longer practicing where I am a patient, so I can't follow up any blame on her either. I guess we all made a bad decision in this case. My advice is that NO ONE CONSIDER GETTING THIS PRODUCT AS A FORM OF BIRTH CONTROL. I would love to have all the money back that I had to spend on this ordeal, but I would be equally content to know that it was no longer on the market to hurt anyone else.
