Allstate Insurance - Replacement Value Claim
In late Juneearly July 2006, I was on vacation and returned homje to find my condo had been broken into. I called my insurance company and filed a claim. My covereage was for replacement vlaue of all property stolen, within policy limits.
I gave a detailed list of what was immediately noticible. I also called later when I discovered other things missing as I went through my home. I filed a police report as well.
One thing that was missing was 135 DVDs that I kept in a CDDVD case and advised them of the number stolen.
After several months and many hoops, I received a check for part of the replacement value. They deducted amounts and said I had to buy the exact same things, submit receipts, adn then I'd get the remainder. I also only was paid for 10 DVDs. I called the claims rep that was working with me, but never received a response. My insurance office referred me to the claims adjuster when I asked them about the issue.
When my insurance policy was getting ready to renew this year, I asked the insurance agent about the DVD restrictions in my policy. He said there were no such restrictions. I told him about what happened, and he said there was nothing that could be done since it had been so long. He said I should have called his office, and I advised him that I did when I got my check, but was told that I'd have to contact the claims person, who did not give me any response.
I'm waiitng paid for the remainder of the DVDs that were stolen, and I also want to know why I wasn't given full replacement value for my items stolen, since that was what I paid for. In the almost 4 months it took to process the claim, I had already purchased some replacement items, though not the specific model, and I upgraded other items. Some items stolen were not replacable (sentimental and not really replaceable).
