When my husband and I divorced last year, our divorce decree divided our debts and property equally. However, one of my husband's debts, a credit card from HSBC still has my name attached to it. I asked them several times to take my name off of the account and they won't. They said I could close it out, but then my ex would not be able to use the account or the credit card. If I close the account, they said the entire balance, close to 6000 would still show up on my credit report. I want this amount off of my credit report. I would close the account immediately even though my ex is unemployed if I thought I could remove it off my credit report. But they say it won't make any difference. I cannot legally use this account. Why won't they take my name off by itself. This does not seem fair. All my debts are on my credit report, but not his. But his are on my credit report, very much affecting my credit score. I have talked to HSBC about this several times and they stated that this is what happens when you apply jointly for a credit card when married. However we are divorced now and the debts have been divided. If there is any legal way of removing this off my credit report, please tell me, anyone. They say it cannot be done no matter what I do, besides paying off myself. My ex cannot pay it off nor can he transfer it since he has been out of work for a while. What do you say? Is there anything that can be done about this?
