Will not recall improperly assembled engines.

Report Fraud
Land Rover North America

I am the owner of a 2003 Land Rover Discovery and have an engine that is constantly having engine oil leak problems (among a host of other mechanical defects). After spending several thousand dollars on all types of engine issues my engine continues to make an intermittent and loud 'ticking' sound. One LR dealer claims they cannot replicate the sound, another dealer said it could be a build defect inside the engine block and the only solution would be replacement of the entire engine. As for the engine oil leak issues I found a Land Rover issued 'Technical Alert' (the alert can be viewed at the following link http:home.comcast.netbhcmbaileylrna_tsb.pdf ) which states that for Discovery models falling within a broad VIN range the oil pump may begin to leak and ultimately fail due to a manufacturing error. A failure of the oil pump will cause the engine to 'seize' thus requiring a new engine. Land Rover refused to issue a recall and refuses to repairreplace engines damaged due to the oil pump failure. An owners only option is to pay for a new engine which costs around 9,000.
I have also learned that according to JD Power Associates and Consumer Reports Magazine, Land Rover produces the LEAST reliable vehicles compared to ALL other auto manufacturers.
I guess you don't always get what you pay for.
