The engine on my 2003 Land Rover Discovery has been experiencing a lot of mechanical problems related to oil seepage and running with a loud 'ticking' sound, costly repair attempts have been made at area Land Rover Dealerships but the situation is getting worse.
After doing some research I have found this is a know problem. Land Rover North America issued a 'Technical Alert' TA03 1201 in March of 2003 to its dealers informing them that the oil pump failure on 2003 Discovery models is due to a manufacturing error which over time will lead to the oil pump failing. They also state that replacement of the entire engine is the only known solution to this problem. They refused to issue a recall and are not interested in consumer complaints. While they have admitted in their own technical bulletin that they are at fault once the factory warranty period expires they will do nothing to resolve this issue when it occurs. The alert can be viewed at the following link:

Land Rover needs to accept the financial responsibility for their known error.
