In the year June 2007, I took out a payday loan for 200.00 with Geneva Roth and for over two months they continually took money out of my checking account. When I tried to call they seemed to have no reputable phone number.
In September 2007, I could not longer afford to have this money withdrawn from my account, so my bank suggested I close my account, which I did and open a new account.
I opened up a new account and have had no problems until today, May 16, 2008, when I went to log onto my bank account and there it was in a pending status of 320.00 to be paid to Geneva Roth.
I did not authorize Geneva Roth to withdrawal money from this account; as it is a new account, I did not give them access to withdrawal any one.
I went on the website and found this number, 913-825-1200, which I found out after calling twice, once I was hung up on and the second time I did talk to someone who told me the name of the company was Smith Haynes Watson, a collection company employed by Geneva Roth.
I asked about this and was told that this is for a loan I defaulted on back in 2007 and when I asked about the money I had already paid them, I was told that was to renew the loan. I explained that a 200.00 should not cost a consumer 900.00 and asked how they got my routing number and checking account number. I was told they are authorized to search for accounts and withdrawal any money without consent and notification.
I am going to the bank and file a complaint and have this company investigated but now I am concerned that more money will be coming out of my account by whom ever feels it is alright to withdrawal money with authorization or notification.
This practice is criminal and with everything going on in the economy the last thing any consumer needs is a “shysters” taking advantage of an already bad situation.
I hope you can assist me in this matter.
