I was told about the Mirena IUD by my gynecologist. She informed me that it was completely safe. I questioned how it could be safe to make a woman not have her period for 5 years and she basically told me it has been tested and not to worry. I am in my late thirties and figured it would be a good thing for me so I did it. I have had it for almost three years I think and I have not had a period since they put it in. I have experienced alot of pain and discomfort. I also have crohn's disease and thought it was from that but after reading all of these complaints about the Mirena IUD I am totally convinced all of my problems are because of my IUD. I have been extremely depressed and have had major mood swings. I also have had alot of problems remembering things. I thought I was losing my mind because I can't remember simple things. After reading these complaints I am blown away it is exactly the symptoms I am experiencing. My General Practice doctor told me he wants me to have it removed because he thinks it is not a good thing for me so now I am in the process of trying to get in to have my tubes tied and the Mirena removed. I honestly believe that this IUD should not be an option for women with crohn's disease. The pain I have had is 10 times worse since I got it put in and my gastroenterologist couldn't figure out why I have been so sick but have finally realized why. I am living everyday hating this thing inside me. As much as I love not having a period I have recently read alot of articles on people dying from blood clots from birth control devices and pills that stop the human nature of a womans menstrual cycle. It just really seems wrong and I am not sure how this product can be on the market as safe. I have also gained over 15 pounds and that adds to my depression. I am not the happy go lucky person I once was and my sex drive has almost diminished as well. I feel like I am in my prime and I just don't have the drive that I once had. It is really sad. I trust my doctor but am really questioning the Mirena IUD. It has caused me to lose alot of work because of the pain and am trying desperately to get my life back. I don't want to be depressed anymore. I feel like my hormones are totally out of whack and I find it hard to think sometimes and focusing is a thing of the past. I have been to the doctor many times with the different symptoms I am having including the tingling in my arms and legs I can't understand why the Mirena would cause that to happen but I would love to know why this is??? Please if anyone can help me I would love any advice I can get...
