The ubiquitous MIRENA IUD by that I mean complaints all over the internet.....WOW! I don't know that I have ever seen or read so many birth control complaints, well, ever!...I currently have the Mirena IUD and it's supposed to come out by May 2008 - that ends my 5 years of 'effective birth control'....

Well, after reading so many other complaints, problems, and issues with this horrid little device, I now know that I maybe really am not crazy. I can pretty much count on two hands how many times my husband I've had sex (very much to his total dismay) in this past 5 yrs...I have absolutely NO sex drive; I mean NONE what so ever! I used to really enjoy sex the thought of it now, is rather annoying very much not wanted. I have had lower right quadrant pain, cramps, only since having this thing, which I had never ever experienced before in my life (keep in mind I turn 40 this year). When mentioning to the original Dr that inserted the IUD about the depression, he immediately recommended Depression Medication maybe talking to someone. When mentioning the ongoing pain, he took an ultrasound said everything is 'just fine' and that it's just nothing to worry about. In the meantime (these past 5 years), I have experienced severe mood issues-anger-depression, nearly on the verge of divorce or calling it quits at least 4 times (we've had some horrible verbal fights), some weird pains in my legsfoot which I have never ever had before. My mental faculties, ability to maintain a stream of thought, have felt as though I have Alzheimer's due to concentration levels constantly wandering off somewhere else...Slight dizziheadedness, crying for no apparent reason, having thoughts of just wanting to disappear, weight gain. I'm truly so very sorry for so many those have experienced so many more horrible symptomsside effects and have seen so many Drs...I kind of gave up and just decided that no Dr really cared much beyond pulling out their script pad stating, 'you know, some low dose depression medication would probably really benefit, help you right now'--which just infuriated my husband....now, all of this seems to coincide with so many of your experiences, that as horrible as this will sound....maybe there is now hope for me.

We moved and I saw another (new) obgyn and he wasn't available so, I ended up seeing the PA and upon mentioning the IUD to her, she was a bit surprised another Dr would even recommend this form of birth control to me since I had NOT had kids (I nearly passed out during insertion; he had to stop use an anesthetic just to insert the IUD). She said SHE would never have suggested that as a form of birth control for me. Then I mention the depression to her the first thing out of her mouth was 'you could use some depression medication' all before ever doing ANY blood worklab work at all! Just made me want to scream all over again...Both ObGyn Dr PA seemed to totally blow me off when I mentioned I felt as though I was really starting into some form of menopause. They both just quickly dismissed my feelings and told me I was too young without further attention to what is really going on. No one seems to care that there may be VERY SERIOUS ISSUES WITH THIS MIRENA IUD and the internal, physical, emotional, mental effects it is having on the larger majority of its patients. The fact is ........there are MORE complaintsissues than there are not regarding this IUD.

I had previously recommended this 'IUD' to my sister few others.........NEVER, EVER, EVER AGAIN!!! I will not recommend this to anyone based upon my own experiences alone and now soooo very many of yours. I am going to have this removed as soon as possible and hope that once it's out that I go back to being the human being I was nearly 5 years ago without pain, depression, mood swings, maybe lose some weight, have sex again and want to - that will be a miracle in itself. Before having the IUD, we had a pretty active, regular sex life and I know my husband would appreciate having a wife that participated in whole relationship.
