After four years of high school French I wanted to continue my French education by taking courses in college. During the semester I did not learn anything new. Half of the class time she didn't even teach.
She spent more time complaining about how the class is not dedicated to the language. She cannot understand that her students have other classes and work outside of her classroom. The class was 2 12 hours long, yet she would always run over the time limit keeping the students from our other obligations.
To the best of my knowledge, according to school rules, a class that long is required at least a 15 minute break. She would give our class 5 minutes or less.
During the times she actually was teaching, if you stopped for even the briefest moment to contemplate pronouncation she would finish the phrase for you. If you made a mistake while speaking she would verbally insult your speaking skills and in an unprofessional manor interrupt you to finish the phrase correctly.
She doesn't give her students the opportunity to learn. True some critiscism is helpful, but not when it forces the student to learn to hate the language and stop taking the class due to such a profoundly unprofessional and academically unhelpful teacher.
One student from the college has already written letters to the editor of our local paper complaining about how the teachers at Ventura College are basically bullies. If we pay for our education, we should be given teachers who enjoy students and the subject they are being paid to instruct.
