I live in New Jersey and have been and am currently unemployed.
I have no idea who this particular vendor (Colorado Capital) is who is billing me over 7,000. I have a couple of outstanding accounts but nothing over 1,000 (a far cry from 7,700 trying to be collected)
This vendor hired a law firm Michael Lanzo of Pressler Pressler located at 16 Wing Drive in Cedar Knolls, NJ 07927 to collect this money. On July 16th I went to make a withdrawal from an ATM machine to discover I had no money in my account. Living on unemployment benefits you know to budget your monies to the nickel. I immediately contacted the bank (JP Morgan Chase) who informed me a 'hold' has been placed on my account until 2009 and all monies going into this account will be forwarded to Colorado Capital to satisfy their judgment.
I informed the Legal Hold Department of Chase that I have been receiving unemployment benefits for months (matter of fact all of which were direct deposited). She stated she knew that but on April 13th, I deposited a check for 600 (which was a check from my former employer for unused vacation days) which meant my account had commingled funds and the vendor was entitled to take my money. The only monies deposited in my account since the early part of this year have been unemployment benefits and the check for unused vacation days which employees are entitled to.
This is now the end of July and I have received unemployment benefits prior to that April check for 600 and l am still receiving unemployment benefits but have no access to the account where it was direct deposited. I have since stopped the checks from being forwarded automatically to the bank and no longer deposit them their as well.
How can this be - where an old outstanding debt can be placed on my bank account where I currently receive unemployment benefits?
This has been a tremendous burden in addition to being unemployed as well as an inconvenience in trying to handle any business (having no debit card). I do not know who is charging me this ridiculous amount of money which I have never spent on anything in all the history as a consumer and then have the nerve to place a hold on a bank account which is receiving unemployment benefits.
Can someone help me?
