I called Capital One on May 24, 2007 to obtain a balance payoff amount. I completed a balance transfer from my Capital One card to another card. I was informed my balance payoff was 835.03, which is exactly what I paid. I called again on May 29th to close my account, only to discover I had a balance of 31.02. I spoke with a CSR regarding the balance and elected to pay the 31.02 balance off via the internet to avoid the 10.00 pay-by-phone charge. Shortly after, I receive a statement showing my payment of 31.02, but my statement included a finance charge of 13.27. I sent a certified letter to Capital One disputing this charge since I paid my 'balance payoff amount' TWICE. This letter was sent on June 17, 2007. I also cancelled my card. I called today (July 12, '07) to speak to a CSR regarding the status. Per the CSR, my balance is now over 32.00. It is my understanding that finance charges may not be assessed on the disputed amount. I have not yet received any written correspondance from Capital One since my letter, which has been less than a month. What rights do I have??
