Our home burnt on July 29, 2006. American Family Insurance never contacted us after the first week after the fire. We had to keep calling them and would never get a return phone call. After 8 months and 3 seperate investigations later they could not find the source of the fire. They than started looking for other ways to get out of paying our claim. On March 5, 2007 they finally gave us their decision on our claim. They will only pay us for our contents lost in the fire. They will not pay us for the 85,000.00 in equity we had in our home. They claim they do not have to pay us any money for our 3000 square foot home because we had it deeded into a Land trust agreement with my husband and I as the beneficiaries. Our agent has admitted that he knew our property was deeded that way and remembers my husband calling him before we deeded it to make sure there wouldn't be a problem. Our agent never changed our policy. ( We protect ourselves by deeding our properties into land trusts)
So, now we are left without a home, furniture, everything is gone.
