I am a healthy 53 year old woman who suddenly began losing handfuls of hair one month after beginning Lexapro.
My Dr and pharmacist told me that they didn't beleive it was lexapro that was causing my hair to fall out. After
3 months...and 50 less hair, I began weaning back my Lexapro dosage and totally stopped the drug on August 24, 2006. Still for the past month I have continued to lose mass amounts of hair on a daily basis...especially after washing it every few days!! I paid nearly 200 for a hair loss program (Scalp Med), but one month later, has NOT shown in any results. My hair is so thin and straw-like that I had to buy a 300 wig and several hats. This is very difficult for me as I suffer from self consciousness to begin with. My depression has gotten worse due to mass amounts of hair coming out every time I comb it. You can see my scalp easily through my hair. It is seriously effecting my profession in a negative manner. I own a health club and am a personal trainer, and I have not wanted to go in public lately with my hair looking so awful!! The medical world tries to blame female hair loss on stress or hormones, but it DEFINITELY is the Lexapro that made my hair come out. I have never had this problem before...and my bloodwork came out great! There needs rto be something done about this terrible dilemma!!
