On June 3, 2004 a group of approximately 8 women were meeting at the Vet Center. I was not present at this meeting. During the meeting my primary therapist Lori Weirsma released personal health information in the form of a diagnosis I was not even aware of to this group without my knowledge. She did this in full view and knowledge of the former Team Leader, Nancy Hildreth. I in no way gave permission for her to do this either in written form or verbal form. I was given a copy of charts from another member of this group showing my initials were placed in her Mental Health Record. I was the only member of that women's group with the initials of NA for 6 years.
I have filed two complaints one with the State of Kansas. The Behavioral Sciences Board found Lori Weirsma and Nancy Hildreth guilty of nothing. They violated the client therapist relationship according to State statutes.
In addition to this compalint I filed a complaint with the Department of Health and Human ServicesOffice of Civil Rights, Region VII, Kansas City, MO. As of this date I have received no news since sometime last year about this case. I was told by their iInvestigator Rebecca Pinnick 'that these things take time'. I called her again three weeks ago and no response.
On the surface this case may look simple but it is very involved. It created a time lapse of close to a year or more before I was able to seek treatment with a therapist again. I have been unable to take care of myself medically correctly. My trust in the mental healthcare profession is still wavering.
