Due to a SC State Tax Audit, I was found inelligible for a state collegic tax credit. The notifications were mailed to my former address, and because the state could not contact me to pay or dispute, they placed a one time bank levy on my account to obtain the funds. Upon promptly settling the issue with the state and establishing a payment plan, when it came to releasing my money, the BANK OF AMERICA WOULD NOT. I called the 1-800 number to their legal department only to get transfered and eventually hung up on . In the meanwhile my direct deposited payroll was lost, and overdraft fees began developing out of thin air. (wo a valid reason as to why) After many trips to the local branch, calls from their company's phone (mine were no longer answered), and a verbal argument between the manager of their legal department, the representative from the SC department of revenue (whom stated 'It is illegal to repetitively take money from the account within a 30 day period, (it is a one time levy), and myself my personal funds were finally released.
However, the manager of the legal department insisted that although it is illegal, 'It is our company policy to hold an account for 14 days and give the collector the entirety until the 14 days are up and the dept is relinquished....'
