In June of 2005, I filed for unemployment benefits. I had a phone interview with a rep. and he informed me that I would not qualify for benefits. I did was not living long at the location where I filed the claim. When I moved, I did not update my information with EDD because I was informed that I would not be receiving benefits.
This year, when I filed for unemployment benefits again, in April of 2006, and I was informed that I was not denied benefits before, and they said they mailed me claim forms for benefits. But, I never recieved them.
The representative I spoke with over the phone, resent the claim forms so I would be able to collect benefits. If filled them out with the new claim forms and sent them in. Several days went by and I received three forms for three weeks with a amount of 0.00, when I called to inquire about it the representative was very rude and mean and informed me that she didn't know what I was talking about, after I spoke with her for one hour, she said that she would release my check for payment, she saw that I was owed the money. The next day I checked the system for payment, still no payment, I spoke with another representative who saw nothing on my account, no notes from the representative, however he saw a change to my account, he said he would note my account, however, he disconnected our call when he started to get confused regarding my claim inquiry. I called back and spoke to another representative and she said that I needed a phone interview, she said she would schedule me for one. I agreed, feeling I had no other choice. I called the following Monday and spoke to someone who saw that the phone interview was scheduled, but then cancelled, this means that I would have been waiting for a phone interview that would never happen. The representative I ended up talking to spoke with her supervisor and informed me that they will be releasing my check for payment. I am waiting to see if this is the case.
In regards to the new claim I spoke with a representative for a phone interview and explained to her why I was unemployed. It was due to a schedule conflict with my previous employer. I originally accepted the position because it was a 9am-6pm or a 8am-5pm Monday thru Friday schedule. During my course of employment, my employer extended our department hours and I was only able to take a morning shift because I have children and daycare is only available during the day. However, the only morning schedule they had was 5:45am to 2:30pm seven days a week, my children's daycare is only available from 6:00am to 6:00pm Monday thru Friday. This did not work well for me, I explained to the representative that in my 90 days of employment I only missed three days, however I was late several times due to daycare issues, I finally put in for a 8:00am - 5:00pm schedule, but by then it was too late, and there was no guarantee that I would get that schedule because of senority. My company let me go. I informed her I missed one day because I was ill, and two other days because my boys were ill and they were weekend days. They had no daycare available and the person watching them will not watch them ill. The representative denied my claim, and said that I disobeyed company policies, it was all my fault. I appealed this decision and I am still awaiting the response. The representative was very rude and humilitated me. At the end of the call, she asked me why I missed those days, I explained to her it was the weekend. She responded by saying 'So!'. After this discussion, I worked on receiving my payment from last year with over five other representatives, most of them hung up on me, and never noted my account and others gave me serious mis-information. I have been working on this for over a month. In the mean time, I have bills that have been backed up and daycare that has not been fully paid, I have had to borrow money, and it has been humiliating. Something should be done, I want to be compensated for the time, I spent with careless representatives, I felt like there was nothing I could do. I was completely at their mercy, and that is not right. I worked to collect benefits when I need them and I had to jump through huge hoops at the amusement of these representatives, to try to get them.
