Since approxiamtely April 15, 2006, Pentagroup Financial has called my home nearly everyday. They have been calling my fiancee at work nearly everyday. They have been informed, both via telephone and via US Mail that they need to cease calling her at work and at home. This has not diminished the call volume (which at present is approximately 30 calls per week).
Just last week, I was told that if I did not pay this bill for her, I would be sued for the entire amount, as opposed to sending them 6 post dated checks. While I understand that they are attempting to collect a debt, it seems to me that they should not be threatening me with a lawsuit, when the debt is not even mine!
According to the Illinois State Legal Aid website, this collection agencies are not even allowed to ask for post dated checks, much less accept or deposit them. Also, according to the same website, collection agencies are required to send a written notice validating the debt within 5 days of the first telephone call. We have received no written communication from them.
Any advice on what to do next would be appreciated.
