Run Flat tires defective

Goodyear,, MINI Cooper

Bought a brand new Mini Cooper S in December 2005. Today was told I need to replace two tire and rims for 1200 because of wear and pothole damage. I only have 16,000 miles on the car and believe tires should last longer than that. They are run flat tires and there is no room in the Mini Cooper S for a spare.
