Lawsuit Accuses T-Mobile of Asking Staff To Email 'Off The Clock'

Case ID: 5523
Category: Employment

Last Update: 08/14/2009
Country:

T-Mobile could face a class action lawsuit over claims that it made employees work without pay while using mobile phones and email devices. The law firm Pelton and Associates in New York has filed an action on behalf of three former employees of T-Mobile, and claims that the three were asked to work on an unpaid basis, by opening and closing T-Mobile shops and participating in calls while not logged into the company's time-recording system.

The suit claims that T-Mobile broke US employment law as well as state laws in New York and California.

The case highlights growing concern over employee welfare when email devices such as the Blackberry, are becoming increasingly commonplace.
