Class Action Lawsuit Against the State Goes to Court After More than a Decade

Case ID: 5499
Category: Miscellaneous

Last Update: 08/07/2009
Country:

After more than a decade 2700 native Hawaiians finally have their day in court. Ten years worth of legal obstacles stalled the class action lawsuit first filed in 1999 against the state of Hawaii.

The suit claims the Department of Hawaiian Homelands has failed to live up to its duty to provide Hawaiians with homestead land. Many of those in the suit have been on waiting lists for decades.
