Law Firms are interested in speaking with anyone affected by an oil rig explosion that occurred on April 18, 2006, about 45 miles southeast of New Orleans. The explosion injured six salvage workers on a cement platform.

"According to the information I've had, the platform was damaged in Hurricane Katrina," Coast Guard Petty Officer Kyle Niemi said. He did not know what the platform had been used for. There was no report of either fire or pollution, he said.

The offshore vessel Gulf King rescued all six, who were then taken by Coast Guard helicopters to hospitals in Metairie and in Pascagoula and Biloxi, Miss.

Early reports indicated that 13 to 15 workers had been rescued. Those were incorrect, Niemi said. The most seriously injured worker was taken to East Jefferson Hospital in Metairie, and two to Singing River Hospital in Pascagoula and three to Biloxi Regional Hospital, Niemi said.
