Government Class Actions
Lawsuits Against the Government
Class actions against the federal or state government tend to arise in two principal settings: against the government as employer, and against the government as the provider of benefits and programs. Class actions against the government as employer are generally much like class actions against private employers, and they tend to raise the same issues: discrimination or wage-and-hours claims. Class actions against the government as benefits and programs provider are different, as many of the benefits and programs come only from governmental bodies, so the actions would not arise against private companies.
